AKA Sonic Gray Pearl, a color in which you can purchase your new Civic hatchback. Saw one on the street this morning. Not bad, but wondering how this color will hold up over time. Could this be the ‘90s teal of the ‘10s (Teens)? And if not, what is this generation’s teal?

As much as I love it:
Or possibly matte everything.

Battleship grey? I figured they’d be trying to forget losing the Yamato...

Reminds me of the grey you can get on a FoRS.

They must agree that the Civic is getting to be a fat lump.

They’ll always have Mikasa:

Definitely related.

As made popular by.
I love the color, but that new civic is an assault on the eyes. I just hate it.

and of course all related to Audi Nardo Grey

Yeah, Smurf Blue is a strong contender, too.
Matte was over as soon as the OEMs got in on it.

Audi did it best (and maybe first):
I don’t think that gray, in all its forms, will ever go out of style. Teal was an unconventional color. Gray is the definition of convention. As I’m thinking about it, I’m not sure we have a “modern teal” at the moment. Maybe BMW’s Austin Yellow Metallic...but that’s ugly in the present. Lol

Yup, and many PTS Porsches.
I really don’t get Honda and Toyota getting so aggressive with their styling recently. I guess it’s better than pure vanilla (maybe?), but I don’t know why they wouldn’t shoot more for classically handsome and well-proportioned.

Gray won’t go out of style, but this gray is definitely not conventional. Very much feels like a “trendy” color whose popularity will pass quickly to me.

Scion had it starting in 2010.

That’s funny, I saw one this morning too. I think it’s a great color. Stands out in the sea of white, silver, beige, and black without being “loud”. Of course it may of caught my eye just because it’s a brand new car, and was showroom clean. I’m not a fan of alk that cheap black plastic on the rear bumper.

You’re wondering about the longevity of a nice neutral gray, when you can buy a Civic in this color
I mean, I like the color, I’m just not sure it pairs well with a base Civic. A Civic Si or Type R? A FiST? Sure. Although, I think the greater travesty here is those awful wheels with sections painted black that car manufacturers seem to love these days. That trend can’t die soon enough. They all look awful.

Holy crap!
That’s not a wrap?
Please tell me it’s so,
Otherwise, I just don’t know...

Energy Green. Man, I wish GoodCarBadCar posted color stats.
And yes, that trend must die.

Nope. OEM color option for coupes. Like I said, a bold color like that makes sense to me on a hot hatch, but on a regular Civic, ehhhhh

I think the 911 is my favorite canvas for that Grey.
Personally I’ll take vanilla over that sort of “styling” any day. Understated cars can be brought to life with an exiting color (most of the time), but when you start as an ugly car there is not a whole lot of help for you.
Even in black that new civic is just a disgrace. I agree with you about Toyota, and I will even throw Lexus in the mix.

I think it’s a pretty good color - definitely different - but wonder how I’ll feel about it in a couple years. The new Miata has this color called Ceramic Metallic that’s in the same family.

And look how that worked out for them.
Scion was nothing if not trendy, and that’s how I see this color.

And optimally, the GTS RS.
Yeah, I’m with you. Just look at ‘90s Honda & Acura. One could consider the designs “plain”, but they hold up.

Battleship gray is a kickass color on literally every car that has ever existed.

I’d never own it, but options are good!

Well, you speak with confidence. It does work very well here:

I actually came upon a 997 turbo in that color that was priced just out of my stretch budget (so really way out of my budget). I even went to look at it, but there was some business about it having no Porsche CoA. The dealer was saying that it was because of the Remus exhaust that was on it, but it all sounded a little shifty to me. Price was way low for a 997 turbo with lowish miles, asking 66k.

And here:

James Bond’s Bentley was battleship grey in the original novels.

The Civic is so rough to look at that it needs interesting or bold colours to complete the boldness of the visual statement. The more base models with awful hubcaps in white and silver are just boring and ugly instead of interesting and ugly.

Much more of a fan of it on the RS than on the R8. That said, I’d chose something else on my PTS GT3 RS.

If it sounds too good to be true...

Hahaha!

Same ;)
But I’d also have a regular GT3 over an RS too.

I think I’m with you there, too, and am so damn happy the three-pedal manual is coming back in the next iteration.
Have you heard if the GT4 will be produced in limited numbers again with the next gen?
![]() 01/17/2017 at 17:04 |
|
It’s factory
![]() 01/17/2017 at 17:05 |

Me too! I’d love the chance to get behind the wheel of one and compare it to the current GT3.
Unfortunately, I’ve not heard anything about the GT4, or anything Cayman/Boxster related for a next gen. I’m itching to know what their GTS motor of choice will be. Will it get the 911's 3.0L TTH6, or a power dense variant of the 2.5L TTH4? What motor will the next GT4 have for that matter? Let’s speculate. :)
![]() 01/17/2017 at 17:25 |
|
Sounds like there will be another GT4 for the ‘18/19 model year, and hopefully, due to the demand for the previous one, it will not be limited production as the first one was. If Preuninger has his way, the NA 6 will stay in the GT4.
https://www.carkeys.co.uk/news/what-to-expect-from-porsche-gt-in-the-next-few-years
450 hp in the GTS has to mean it stays 6 cylinder, but interesting thought about the TTH4 eventually creeping up into the 911 line.

Well, they sold one, at least.

I saw one of these the other day as well. It’s an absolutely beautiful color, on an incredibly horrendous turd.

This generation’s new teal is Energy Green.

I think it will fair okay. This will be the 90's teal of today (and maybe even the PT Cruiser of today)
